Perched above the Pacific Ocean in Depoe Bay, the Fishing Rock Residence transforms an existing 1970s beach house into a contemporary coastal retreat designed for a large, multigenerational family. Rather than replacing the original home, the project works within the existing structure, reorganizing the interiors around gathering, privacy, and the dramatic oceanfront setting.

The reconfigured plan places the kitchen, dining, and great room at the center of the home creating a generous, shared space for cooking, entertaining, and gathering. A large island, open circulation, and direct connections to exterior living areas allow the house to comfortably support both everyday use and larger family functions. Vaulted wood ceilings, exposed beams, skylights, and a restrained coastal material palette bring warmth and natural light into the interior while giving the renovated home a more cohesive architectural identity.

Expansive glazing and carefully planned sightlines extend views toward the beach and ocean from the primary living spaces and bedrooms. At the same time, window placement, solid walls, and the organization of private rooms were studied to limit views toward neighboring properties and create a greater sense of retreat.

The completed concept balances openness with privacy and communal space with quiet separation. The result is a light-filled beach house that feels both elevated and comfortable—designed to bring a large family together while remaining deeply connected to the rugged Oregon Coast.
