This private residence in Portland’s Multnomah Village neighborhood was designed around a thoughtful balance of everyday function, personal expression, and a warm modern material palette.

The plan for this Multnomah Village residence is compact, but highly intentional. On the main level, the home is organized around living, kitchen, work, and support spaces, with a front porch, covered outdoor patio, garden beds, and a grass area extending the living environment beyond the building footprint. The upper level provides a quieter private zone, including the primary bedroom, primary bath, primary closet, guest bedroom, guest bath, laundry, and an open-to-below connection that brings light and vertical openness into the center of the home.

The exterior design uses a modern interpretation of familiar residential forms. A simple gabled volume rises above a lower, more horizontal base, giving the home a strong street presence without feeling oversized for its neighborhood context. Together, these elements create a home that feels contemporary and grounded, warm, durable, and that is integrated into the scale and texture of Multnomah Village.

The design also gives careful attention to outdoor living. A covered patio, front porch, rear deck, planting areas, and garden beds are integrated into the plan so that the site feels like an extension of the home. Large divided-lite windows and glazed doors connect the interior to these outdoor areas, bringing natural light into the living, kitchen, and workspaces throughout the day.

Inside, the residence is designed around contrast, texture, and personality. The interior direction includes warm wood, deep color, integrated storage, expressive tile, and carefully framed views. The entry and living room include built-in display and media walls, open stairs, exposed ceiling beams, and a dark, tailored palette that gives the compact plan depth and character. The kitchen pairs dark cabinetry with a marble-like island and tile backsplash.
