Located along the Oregon Coast in Arch Cape, this concept home reinterprets the classic, mid-century modern Rummer residence through a contemporary coastal lens. Rummer residences were built by developer Bob Rummer in Oregon and Washington between 1959 and 1975. The design preserves the defining qualities of the original model—including its low horizontal profile, central atrium, open living spaces, and strong indoor-outdoor connection—while introducing modern construction systems, materials, and detailing suited to the coastal environment.
The home was meticulously positioned and organized to capture more than 180 degrees of panoramic beach and ocean views. Expansive glazing; carefully aligned sightlines; and a continuous relationship between the living spaces, atrium, and exterior terraces allow the landscape to remain present throughout the home. The concept also includes an elevated observation deck, extending the living experience upward and creating a dedicated setting for morning coffee, sunset gatherings, and expansive coastal views.
Designed with hosting in mind, the residence centers its social spaces around an open kitchen, dining, and living area that flow directly outdoors. Guest rooms, flexible gathering areas, a sauna, outdoor seating, and operable glass partitions support both intimate family use and larger groups. The result is a modern interpretation of an iconic Pacific Northwest residential type—one that honors the spirit of Rummer design while responding thoughtfully to its dramatic coastal setting.
