The Serenity Homes Apartments reimagined a 3.5-acre site—formerly home to a single residence—into a much-needed multifamily and mixed-use development in Lacey, Washington. Located along Carpenter Road in a transitional zone between residential neighborhoods and commercial activity, the site required a careful balance of density, context, and design approach.
The result is a cost-effective, garden-style complex composed of 72 apartments, eight live/work units, and a small retail space that activates the street. Amenities were integrated to support daily life while maintaining affordability. Parking was strategically divided between residents and visitors for better circulation.
Completed while at Ferguson Architecture, this project reflects a responsive, community-focused solution that provides more housing options while respecting the evolving character of its surroundings.
