Winchell Apartments is a direct response to Portland’s growing housing needs and recent zoning updates that support higher-density infill development. Designed in partnership with Sigma Development, this three-story, 12-unit building makes the most of its urban site. It offers six studio and six one-bedroom apartments that prioritize comfort, functionality, and long-term durability.
The design incorporates high-quality materials and thoughtful details including solid core doors, quartz countertops, wood cabinetry, roller shades, vaulted ceilings, and private balconies. These features offer residents an elevated living experience not often found in similarly scaled projects.
To further maximize the building footprint, our team worked closely with the City of Portland to secure a setback adjustment, allowing increased projection at the upper levels and resulting in more livable, spacious units across the board.
To reimagine the home’s potential, the team undertook a complete layout overhaul, introducing a stair tower and a private rear entry to enhance flow and accessibility. Vaulted ceilings replaced the original low roofline, while a master bathroom addition allowed for an influx of natural light, creating an open and airy second-story space.
